Youth Summer
Mission Trip 2011
“Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.” Matthew 28:19-20
Our Purpose:
In his final words to his disciples, Jesus Christ gives them the Great Commission, telling them to go out and make disciples of all nations. Our youth group at All Saints’ UMC seeks to live into this calling by going out and serving others with our annual mission trip. Because we go out and serve others, we find that we learn about ourselves, about the people whom we serve, and the God that we worship.
We do not go out simply to build a home for someone without or to feed someone who is hungry. We go do these things because in doing them we come to know God, to live closer to Him and closer to each other. Please join us in helping our youth live a missionally focused life and grow in their Christian relationships as we go out to make disciples and become disciples ourselves.
This summer we will be taking our youth to work in urban Nashville. We will be supporting Harvest Hands, a Christian Community Development Corporation, with its summer kids program, community service in the neighborhoods it serves, tending their community garden and general support for the Wedgewood neighborhood community. We will also work with Room in the Inn, a homeless shelter and recovery center who is need of help sorting donations, caring for their facilities and serving the large homeless population in downtown Nashville.
In order to get there, our youth group needs to raise over $12,000 for travel, housing and support costs. While we hope to raise much of this through various fundraising activities, it is equally important that the church body recognize this as a mission for all, not just the youth. Christ’s call to go out is not a call for some; it is a call for everyone. We hope you will find a way to help support us in this effort, through financial aid and your prayers.
